Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) (3)

Co-ordinate Measurement Machines are widely used within automotive OEMs and its suppliers, as they are generally employed to assess large assemblies and complex geometries. This type of inspection device is not restricted to digital touch-trigger assessment, but with the aid of suitable CMM attachments can also assess component in the following approaches:-

Traditionally, CMMs have played a significant role in the gage laboratories. Today, because of their flexibility, they are replacing dedicated gages on the factory floor. You now find CMMs determining the integrity of individual parts or of manufacturing processes. They may be used to inspect every feature on every part, or, in an SPC system, assess critical features on a statistical sampling of parts to validate a production process in real time. In the latter case, the user's goal is to find potential problems before bad parts are made. Note that this is no longer just a post process operation, but enables users to monitor measured processes in real time.
