The overwhelming post-War economic success of Japanese industry (which must in large be credited to the widespread use of SPC) has led to a growth of interest in so-called Japanese work methods and in SPC itself.
Because of its success in manufacturing activities, SPC has, until probably the fairly recent past, been viewed by the majority of industry as restricted to these tasks. However, as we have seen, Dr. Deming used SPC techniques very successfully as long ago as the mid-1940's on the (essentially administrative) process of the National Census.
Fortunately there is a growing awareness throughout the world of commerce, both in this country and overseas, that SPC is as valuable tool in administrative and commercial activities as it is in manufacturing.
