The configuration of a man-machine interface takes into account different channels of information transmission. Thus humans can be informed over visual, auditory or haptic impulses. Combinations of different kinds of information are possible. Some of the examples from practice are listed below:
Auditory: Warning tone e.g. for low friction coefficient.
Visual: Information displayed on instrument panel or the use of so called Head Up Displays, which project information onto the windshield.
Haptic: E.g. 'Active' Accelerator Pedal, which increases backpressure when the vehicle finds itself at an unsafe distance to a vehicle ahead of it.
