Driver assistance systems can be classified based on their scope of operation and service.
Driving today is supported by the analysis of conditions based on traffic information. Driver assistance systems can reduce the stress on the driver by warning him appropriately of an impending situation. Navigation systems support the drivers choice of action and help with active support e.g., Heading Control (HC) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).
The last stage of development represents autonomous driving, where even the responsibility of steering is taken away from the driver.
With the development of Driver Assistance, it can be shown that the drivers are gradually being supported with even more functions, i.e., larger and larger components of vehicle guidance are being taken away from them.
