The Structure of the Excellence Model
Criteria, Sub Criterion Parts, and Guidance Points

Each of the nine Criteria are under-pinned by a number of Sub Criterion Parts, each with its own Definition. These definitions can effectively be regarded as questions in themselves. Associated with each Sub Criterion Part are a number of Guidance Points which help to generate more searching questioning of what the organisation does and how it does it etc.

There are NINE Criteria
Sub Criterion Parts Between TWO and FIVE Sub Criterion Parts, each with its Definition
Sets of guidance Points Each sub criterion part has associated Guidance Points

The specific Guidance Points published (and owned under copyright), by the EFQM as part of the Model are not prescriptive. It is possible for example to use the model framework and criterion parts, but either make use of the published guidance points selectively, or devise additional or alternative questioning that may suit the organisation's goals.
