Areas for improvement

Depending upon how many AFIs are found, it will be important to be quite selective, especially at first, about which to target. The aim is to encourage further use of the model by demonstrating its value as an organisational improvement tool. Choose AFIs that are achievable within a reasonable time-scale and to where adequate resources can be assigned.

Also choose issues that are likely to make a noticeable difference, whether to customers or staff, as again this will demonstrate how useful the model can be.

Once AFIs have been addressed, ensure that the success of the use of the model is then communicated across the organisation as a means of encouraging further and more in depth use. The process should then continue and ideally become a normal part of the business process.

Summary, focus on those AFIs that :

  • are achievable based on time & resources
  • can be managed
  • will make a visible difference (to customers or staff?)
  • will encourage further improvement
