EMS Documentation

There is a need to have operational procedures to control those operations and activities associated with the identified significant environmental aspects of the company, and where the lack of a procedure could lead to deviations from the policy requirements. An example of this would be if a company had a commitment to reduce energy consumption - procedures would be put into place to ensure that energy consumption was monitored on a regularly basis, and that purchase procedures were amended to give priority to energy efficient equipment. Examples of operational procedures that may be required:

Significant Impact

Operational Procedure

Oil contaminated rainwater run-off from site discharged into surface waters

Control of Discharges

Personnel not aware of legal duties regarding waste storage and disposal

Waste Storage and Disposal

Drums of chemicals stored in unbunded store, and not segregated from waste chemicals

Storage of Chemicals

Purchase large quantities of chemical substances

Raw Materials Assessment

Large quantities of VOCs discharged to atmosphere

Control of Emissions
