Verification to EMAS is similar to certification to ISO 14001, but also includes a validation of the companys environmental statement. The external auditor will verify that the EMS documentation conforms to the requirements of the EMAS regulations. This includes an examination of the:

• environmental policy
• environmental programme
• environmental management system
• environmental review
• environmental audit procedures
• environmental statement.

In addition the external auditor will check how the EMS functions on site and investigate the technical validity of the environmental review and internal audits.
