The Verification/Certification Process


The site becomes registered on the official list of registered sites once the competent authority has received a validated environmental statement and registration fee. The information to be provided to the competent body at the time of application for registration is as follows:

The list of registered sites is given to the European Commission which publishes a list of all registered sites in Europe each year in its Official Journal. The complete list is available from the official EMAS Helpdesk - www.emas.lu/

The competent body for EMAS also has the power to de-register a site from the official register if:

The Institute of Environmental Assessment (IEA) has recently taken over from the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions as the competent body background=/envENVMAN5/course/images/back/back.jpg for registering sites to EMAS. The IEA is an independent, non-profit making organisation with a membership drawn from industry, environmental consultancies, local authorities and educational establishments. It was established in 1990, to improve standards of environmental assessment and auditing.
