This section of the unit provides a BACKGROUND TO SOURCE MODELLING using the most commonly used model for a single stack.
On completing this section you should be able to:
- Explain the basic principles of a diffusive stack model.
- Explain the difference between time averaged plume envelope and instantaneous plume boundary.
- Estimate the ground level concentration of a pollutant, emitted at ground level, or as a plume from an elevated stack, at given distances downwind (based on the most popular source modeling equations. And on simple calculations)
- Given appropriate meteorological information calculate the plume rise for a stack.
- Understand the approximate nature and limitations of the models used.
- Produce a spreadsheet-based version of the model with a level of flexibility appropriate to your needs.
