Pollution Abatement Through Process Control

Many polluting processes can have their effects reduced by process control, process modification and in many instances by good housekeeping. Careful control of reaction temperatures and pressures can prevent the release of products to atmosphere and the generation of side products.

Combustion processes for energy transformation have been the subject of considerable development. Control of boiler plant etc. To ensure as complete combustion as possible not only reduces particulate emissions and carbon monoxide production but also increases energy efficiency.

Examples

  1. Fuel substitution.

  2. Prior removal of pollutant from fuels. -Can recover the pollutant as a product

  3. Timing/heating control at process plants.

Task 2:
  1. Find at least one example of an application of each type
  2. What other benefits accrue from these measures?
