Particles are removed from the plates by:

• Gravity
• Rapping
• Flushing with liquids.

Hundreds of plates and tens of thousands square metres of collection area are required.

Efficiency of electrostatic precipitators are usually over 98%. Some are over 99.9% efficient

Efficiency increases non-linearly with plate area.
