Overall Equipment Effectiveness

Performance Rate = processed quantity x actual cycle time
                   --------------------------------------
                              operation time

Actual cycle time is the agreed floor to floor time for the component and operation being measured.

Quality Rate = rate of good products eg. 100 produced 2 rejected quality rate = 98%

To determine the O.E.E. of the equipment;

Availability x Performance Rate X Quality Rate

Be prepared for a figure that is lower than you might think. On initial investigation the average company will record figures of 50 - 60 % Experience shows that the ideal conditions are:

Therefore the ideal overall equipment effectiveness should be :

0.90 x 0.95 x 0.99 = 85+%

This figure is not a remote goal, many companies are achieving in excess of this.
