EC type examination route is only applicable to apparatus designed for the transmission of radio-communications. The essence of this route is to obtain an EC type examination certificate from an appointed Notify Body

The application for EC type examination is lodged by the manufacturer or his authorised representative established within the EEA with a notify body of his choice.

To gain an EC type examination certificate, a type test must be performed and documented. The testing must be carried out at an EMC test laboratory that has been approved by the notify body.

Upon successful completion of the test program, the laboratory would submit a test report to the notify body who, if satisfied , will issue the EC type examination certificate. Note that like the other routes to compliance, the manufacturer is still required by law to make a declaration of conformity and hold it on file for ten years.
