The EMC Directive stipulates that all 'apparatus' must be accompanied by instructions containing all the information required in order to use the apparatus in accordance with the intended purpose and in the defined electromagnetic environment. Other than to facilitate the operation of the apparatus, their purpose is to ensure that no EMC problem is encountered in use.

These instructions must give the following information :-

• Intended conditions of use
• Instructions on :
  • Installation
  • Assembly
  • Adjustment
  • Taking into service
  • Use
  • Maintenance
• Where necessary, warnings about limitations of use.

A copy of the instructions for use should be included in the technical construction file, when Article 10.2 has been used
