Other International Organisations




Electromagnetic Compatibility standardisation development is not only the responsibility of IEC, CENELEC and ETSI, the following organisations also make a contribution :-

  • CIGRE (International Conference on Large High Voltage Electric Systems).
  • UNIPEDE (International Union of Producers and Distributors of Electrical Energy).
  • ISO (International Organisation of Standardisation).
  • ITU (International Telecommunication Union).
  • OIML (International Organisation for Legal Metrology).
  • IRPA/ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection).

IEC, CENELEC and ETSI can use the work of these organisations in constructing their standards.

MIL-STD : The main standards in this field are : MIL-STD 461 for the Environmental Quality and MIL-STD 462 for Test Methods. Each following revision will be indicated with alphabetical letters: A, B, C, D etc.

ISO : This body controls international standards, including many Automotive ones.

FARINC : For Civil Aviation Standards (like 160 for EMC).
