The Generic Standards of CENELEC are applied to all the electric and electronic apparatus intended for use in residential, commercial and light industrial environment (part 1) and industrial environment (part 2) for which no dedicated product or product-family standard exists.

Apparatus designed to radiate electromagnetic energy for radio communications purposes are excluded from this standard.

Where a relevant dedicated product or product -family EMC standard exists, also only one aspect (emission or immunity), this shall take precedence over all aspects of one or both generic standards.
