EN 55014 Household Appliances

EN 55014 (equivalent to CISPR 14) : Limits and measurement methods of radio characteristics for electric motors and thermal appliances for the household and other similar electric tools and apparatus.

This standard applies to the conduction and radiation of radio frequency disturbances from appliances whose main functions are performed by motors and switching or regulating devices, unless the r.f. energy is intentionally generated for illumination. A non exhaustive list of apparatus is shown below :-

  • Household electrical appliances;
  • Electric tools (power < 2kW);
  • Cine or Slide Projectors;
  • Motor driven electro-medical apparatus;
  • Electric toys;
  • Regulating controls using semiconductor devices;
  • Automatic dispensing machines;
  • Separate parts of the above mentioned equipment such as motors, switching relay devices.

Excluded from the scope of the standard are :-

  • Apparatus for which all emission requirements in the radio frequency range ae explicitly formulated in other EN, IEC or CISPR standards.
  • Regulating controls and equipment with regulating controls incorporating semiconductor devices with a rated current of more than 25A per phase.
  • Stand alone power suppliers.

Tests required by the standard are :

  • The measure of main terminal interference voltage from 150kHz to 30MHz measured using 50 ohms/150 microH CISPR artificial main network.
  • Interference power from 30MHz to 300MHz on mains lead, measured by means of the absorbing clamp.
