EN 55011 ISM Equipment

EN 55011 (equivalent to CISPR) : Limits and methods for measurement of radio disturbance characteristics of industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) radio-frequency equipment.

The limits and methods of measurement laid down in this Standard apply to Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) equipment; that is equipment not being Telecommunication or Information Technology equipment, which intentionally generates radio frequency energy necessary for the internal functioning of the equipment itself or for the treatment of materials external to the equipment.

For the purpose of this Standard, spark erosion equipment is deemed to be ISM equipment.

ISM equipment shall be labelled by the manufacturer indicating the class and group of equipment.

Group 1 ISM Apparatus : Group 1 contains all ISM apparatus in which radio frequency energy is necessary for the internal functioning of the apparatus itself.

Group 2 ISM Apparatus : Group 2 contains all ISM apparatus in which radio frequency energy is intentionally generated for the treatment of material external to the apparatus, including spark erosion equipment.

Class B apparatus is apparatus suitable for use in domestic and for establishments directly connected to a low voltage power network which is used for domestic purposes.

Class A apparatus is apparatus suitable for use in all establishments other than domestic and those directly connected to a low voltage power network which is used for domestic purposes. Class A apparatus shall meet Class A limits.

The tests required by the standard are :

  • Measurement of the main interference voltage from 150kHz to 30MHz measured using 50ohms//50microH CISPR artificial main network.
  • Antenna terminal disturbance voltage over the range 30 to 1000MHz.
