Raising Awareness
Raising awareness is about telling people what s going on, getting them interested in an important issue, encouraging their co-operation and ideas, and providing relevant information.  BS EN ISO 14001 : 1996, Clause 4.4.2

There are three areas of environmental awareness training that are discussed in this unit:

  1. Raising the awareness of top management to ensure commitment to EMS implementation.
  2. Raising the awareness of the environmental team or Environmental Steering Group.
  3. Raising the general environmental awareness of company employees.

In larger organisations, an external trainer who specialises in EMS training may be employed to raise awareness and conduct the implementation training. However, the best people to provide the rest of the workforce with awareness training are employees of the company itself.
