The various Directives concerning surface and other water pollution are implemented by EPA 1990 and are:

• Directive on pollution caused by certain dangerous substances discharged into the aquatic environment (76/464/EEC) and other daughter Directives (which are discussed later).
  
  
• Directive 80/68/EEC deals with discharges to ground water.
  
  
• Other Directives, such as 76/769/EEC and amendments that are aimed at the marketing and use of specific dangerous substances with the main goal of decreasing the risks that they pose to human health coupled with protecting the aquatic environment.
