With all applications for authorisations, or any significant changes to the authorisation, these must be advertised locally such as in a local newspaper and, where relevant, in the London or Edinburgh Gazette. This gives the public the chance to review the application and communicate their views to the appropriate environment agency. Copies of the advertisement need also to be passed to the environment agencies, which are also open to public review. The agencies then need to maintain public registers of these.
