Unit 7:  Environmental Law And The Environmental Management System

7.3.1  Compiling a Register of Applicable Environmental Legislation as Part of An EMS

The following clause (4.3.2 Legal and Other requirements) from the ISO14001 standard requires that the:

organisation shall establish and maintain a procedure to identify and have access to legal and other requirements to which the organisation subscribes, that are applicable to the environmental aspects of its activities, products or services.

Perhaps the most effective means by which a company can keep up to date and ensure that they are complying with environmental legislation is through the design and maintenance of a Register of Applicable Environmental Regulations. This will not only form part of an EMS that is compliant with the ISO 14001/EMAS standards but will also ensure peace of mind.
