Development of driver assist and telematic systems can be temporally ranged in the following:
Most developments started within the scope of the european research project PROMETHEUS. This project existed from 1990 to 1994. It analysed possibilities of driver assist systems. For example the ideal autonomous driving vehicle VITA II is due to this project. Systems like friction value detection, ACC, HC, route guidance and COMPANION emerged during that time. Since then, these systems have been advanced and are already implemented on european market, partly. So the following temporally statement can be given:
1994                    Route Guidance System (BMW)
1996 COMPANION (BMW)
1999                   ACC (DaimlerChrysler)
Planned for next future: friction value detection, lane holding alarm (DaimlerChrysler)
Implementation of the other presented systems is not possible until explicit further development of environmental sensor technology.
