Another objective for the inclusion of different data is pursued at present for example by BMW with the project 'Situation-Adaptive Drive Management'. The application of ACC function with the inclusion of further information should lead to the lowering of fuel consumption and emissions. Here the centre of attention is no longer the extension of comfort or safety, but a new control strategy on the basis of the additional data. Information of the surrounding environmental sensor technology, the navigation system and also the traffic radio is to be linked with this application intelligently. The traffic conditions are derived and evaluated from these data. A recommendation for vehicle operation which is fuel consumption-favourable is generated accordingly to the situation. This goes beyond the normal operation of the ACC. To pass on the recommendation to the driver, a touch sensitive accelerator pedal is to be used. The attainable reduction in fuel consumption is estimated depending upon degrees of conversion from 5... 20%.
