Analysis and use of data
In order to understand what a varied range of inputs processed together becomes, it is important to measure what the overall outcome is. Referring to TS16494 8.1.4., the following is stated:
Trends in quality and operational performance shall be compared with progress toward objectives and lead to support the following:
- Development of priorities for prompt solutions to customer related problems
- Determination of key customer related trends and correlation for status review, decision making and longer term planning
- An information system for the reporting of product information arising from usage
Measuring capability is not restricted just to product conformance, but is used across a wide range of key business performance indicators which can include employee skills, material costs, production volume, accident occurrences etc. Data gathered from each variable can not only be used to help prioritise which areas require improvement, but also to make future strategic decisions to help eliminate unwanted variation for future products and processes.
