Introduction to Measument Systems and Reporting

Scope of session

This session will consider the role played by inspection data in the maturation of a component or assembly. The information presented covers, but is not specific to, the importance of how non-compliant interior and exterior automotive trim, when assembled, can have an impact on product perception and craftsmanship. Although based predominantly around automotive applications, the material in this module is relevant to a wide variety of engineering, product-based industries.

Session objectives

There are three main objectives to this session:

  1. To demonstrate the importance of inspection data and the key role it plays in the maturation process.
  2. To describe various reporting methods that can be used to highlight non compliances that can impact product perception.
  3. To illustrate the various inspection options available and to highlight relevant advantages and disadvantages depending on the application in question.

Learning outcomes

This session will improve the knowledge and understanding of the participant in the field of component inspection, to the extent that he or she is then confident and competent to identify the most suitable inspection solution for a particular situation.
