Columns of figures are very difficult to interpret as there is no apparent pattern to the data. However, re-developing the data as a chart or graph of some kind immediately makes the work more accessible and more easy to understand and deal with. Graphs and charts provide a quick visual input of data which can provide a clear picture.
A run chart can be used to observe a process characteristic, while preserving the time order of the data. A histogram provides a picture of the spread, shape, and centre of a set of data, but does not contain any information about the time order.
Both a tally chart and an ogive can give information on the cumulative frequency of the data, the first numerically, the second graphically.
