The sign conventions for toe angles are indicated.
Positive Toe →Toe-in
Negative Toe →Toe-out
As a rule, a total toe-in angle →f is specified for the front axle because the wheel-related toe-in angles depend on the steering angle → on the front axle.
Toe-in on the outside wheel and toe-out on the inside wheel tend to increase the capability of an axle to transfer side forces. However, due to load increase on the outer wheel, the toe-in on the outer wheel has a stronger influence on the side force capabilities of the axle.
An overall toe-in on the front axle hence increases the possibility of transferring side forces during cornering.
→Static toe-in has to be set such that it is compensated by the toe change caused by rolling resistance, in order to keep tire wear to a minimum.
