The influence of correct layout of the transmission ratio or the driver's correct choice of gears on the fuel consumption has already been mentioned before. Using the example of a 40 t semi-trailer, the figure shows how the fuel consumption increases if the engine is not operated at the optimum operating point.
In actual driving, the influence of side aggregates on the fuel consumption is often underestimated. At the institute experiments were carried out on an individual example in order to quantify this influence.
It becomes obvious that especially at low speeds the increase in fuel consumption is significant, up to 29%. In future, consumption-optimized side aggregate concepts can be positively used in spite of a probably higher technical expense.
