The general view of the driver-vehicle interface depicted in the figure above implies the posture of the driver as an inevitable outcome of the individual characteristic of humans and that of the driver seat.
Due to the differing body sizes of humans, an optimal posture can only be ensured by a sufficient number of adjustment devices. The operating devices, the sources of information as well as illumination have to be located and designed in such a way that an optimal posture can be maintained while driving. Therefore the vehicle must be designed "around the seated driver".
