The recent past shows a change in the design process. Computer-aided picture generation and high resolution picture projection allows for the reduction of a few developmental steps. The computer model can be viewed from different angles, in different colours and differing lighting conditions. In addition, when networked to the construction department, the compatibility of the design to other demands can be evaluated at a very early stage. In the Paint-Box-System developed by Ford for example, viewing the vehicle in motion as well as a comparison of the model to competing models can be realised. The target of the computer-aided design process is the possibility of making a decision on the model in the absence of a model, through which the development process can be halved to about 30 months.
