The Volkswagen group reaches back to several platforms, on which all vehicle models are based. Thereby the so-called A-platform is the one, on which most models of the four company labels develop. Altogether seven basic models on this platform are produced, whereby each company label, VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda, at least manufactures one automobile on this platform.
Contrary to the engines used at the same time in several vehicles, modifications between the individual models within the area of the body and in the interior occur, with which a demarcation develops to the label partners. Resulting one achieves a multiplicity of vehicle models with reduced costs and reduced development time on only one platform.
The axles bases of the used vehicle models except of the Audi TT are continuous identical. This shows that in the floor assembly and with chassis components predominantly the same components have been used here. The outside dimensions of the vehicles, which are situated in a same order of magnitude, show, that these models are settled in a common vehicle segment (Audi TT excluded) and therefore also adapted to similar customer requirements. Apart from the outside dimensions of the A-platform vehicle it should be clarified here in what respect the individual company labels access an existing platform.
