During the view of a platform strategy, how it is consistently pursued for example in the automobile industry, the strategy of the Volkswagen company is to be represented once more in detail. In the Volkswagen company 1997 still 19 different platforms, 16 old and three new existed. These 19 platforms are to be reduced finally to four platforms.
These are:
· Platform small vehicle class (A0/A00): VW Polo, VW Lupo, Seat Arosa, Skoda Fabia
· Platform compact class (A): VW gulf, VW Bora, VW New Beetle, Audi A3, Skoda Octavia, Audi TT, Seat Toledo
· Platform middle class (B/C): VW trade wind, Audi A4, Audi A6
· Platform upper class (D): A8, D1 (Horch)
The company produces approx. 20,000 vehicles per day, whereby also the commercial motor vehicles are counted here. To short after the turn of the century all platforms are to be gradually changed over.
