The limitation of the product and version diversity, which takes a substantial point of view of the consequently pursued platform strategy, is achieved by three different approaches. On the one hand one tries to limit the number of individual component types, by consequent use of platform components company-wide and the development of these components takes place at the same time according to certain rules.
On the other hand one aims a maximised use of equal parts. Thereby not necessary component versions are avoided and replaced by so-called best-seller-parts. The process of the standardization and introduction of equal and system parts is developed by this means.
The competitive optimisation of the product range is regarded as the third aspect. This is achieved by an exact observation of the market, which should lead to recognizing, which products are successful on the market or which could be future products. The product is by this means better co-ordinated with the desires of the customer.
