Introduction to TPM

TPM IMPROVEMENT PLAN

There are three main stages to the TPM Improvement Plan:

Stage 1. Condition The present condition of the equipment is determined. Areas for improvement are identified and plans produced for the future care of the equipment.
Stage 2. Measurement The current effectiveness of the equipment is assessed and used as a baseline for measuring future improvements.
Stage 3. Improvement The equipment effectiveness is improved.

There are nine steps within these stages shown in the diagram on the next page.

Throughout this plan, the following themes should be applied:

  • Restore before improvement.

  • Pursue ideal conditions.

  • Eliminate minor defects.

  • Prevent causes of dust, dirt and scattering.

  • Ask "WHY?" five times.
