Introduction

Improvement strategies are broad means by which objectives and targets can be achieved. Formulating an environmental improvement strateg for a particular group of projects under the same objective within an EIP may be the best route to follow. Companies not engaged in the implementation of an EMS, but which are under pressure from areas such as:

  1. Cost (wasted resources)
  2. Environmental legislation
  3. Customer / stakeholder pressure

may find that adopting a sensible and systematic approach to making improvements is the best way forward.

This unit will focus firstly on the generic components of environmental improvement strategies, and subsequently upon examples of strategy types and the methods by which improvements may be made.
