The adjustment times for the ADC-1 system are in a time range of 30-200 ms, which does not allow the system to react to single obstacles. Adjustable dampers with internally operated valves on the other hand, enable significantly shorter switching times (20-100 ms) and also a reaction to individual obstacles to a limited extent. The figure shows an adjustment system fully integrated into the damper. The control of the piston valves is performed by electromagnets (solenoid valves).
Steplessly adjustable absorbers without fixed characteristics which could be implemented by proportional valves, for example, are presently in the developmental stage.
