- Poor understanding of what visual controls are.
The favoured method of implementing visual controls
is with a 5S programme, but there is a need to reconise
one fundamental point. A 5S programme is relatively
static, actions are taken and remain in place, but visual
controls are live. The purpose of introducing a visual
control system is to enable problems to be visible as
they occur, then to take immediate actions to overcome
them.
- Poor problem awareness.
If a problem occurs, it needs attacking, not ignoring.
- Control personnel have inadequate supervisory abilitiy
If the tools are not used quickly and effectively, they
will not work.
- Unsatisfactory Control Tools.
Identify the correct tools are available and in a position
which makes them useable. People will not use them if
it is inconvenient to do so.
- Lack of Knowledge.
Train effectively. Everyone must have the same idea.
- Excess Inventory.
Time is available in the scheduling system to enable
problems to be by-passed.
- Poor interdepartmental communication.
Non - production departments need to understand
they are involved.
