Transmission of power, power electronics and electronic drives involve the handling of large amounts of power, non-linear or intermittent loads, rectifiers, inverters and similar devices which distort wave-forms and generate fast edges.

These result in harmonics, voltage dips and fluctuations, unbalance, spikes and surges. This phenomenon contributes substantially to EMC problems.
