This session on fixturing has demonstrated the importance of fixtures in the development and production of automotive components. Secondly, it has highlighted different types of fixtures available and various options which can make a fixture most suitable for a specific component. Thirdly, the various stages and requirements of the specification and procurement process have been described.
The information presented in this session should enable the participant to understand and make a significant contribution to (if not lead) the fixture specification, procurement and buy-off process. Important considerations within the three stages of fixture procurement (vendor selection, fixture design and fixture manufacture) have been identified and guidelines for good fixture design and manufacture are presented.
