The cornering light is also involved in the optimization of front lighting. Depending on the velocity and the radius of the curve, the beam of light has to be directed inside the curve. The effect of the cornering light is indicated in the illustration above. The range of illumination of a conventional headlamp in the low-beam setting is shown in the upper half of the diagram. The picture below it shows the distinctly improved illumination as a result of the cornering light.
The advantage of the cornering light lies in the early and accurate illumination of sharp or dangerous curves. In this context, road signs could also be illuminated by appropriately directing the beam of light using sensors.
