What constitutes BATNEEC for the industry that I am involved in?

BATNEEC standards (IPR series)have been developed for various industry types for IPC regulated processes within the sectors of:

  • Fuel and power

  • Metal production and processing

  • Mineral

  • Chemical

  • Waste disposal

  • Other (misc.)

They are continually being reviewed and updated and can be ordered from the stationary office or found on microfiche within university libraries. These guidance notes are issued by the EA's to give guidance for their inspectors and the companies requiring the authorisation. The complete list is given below.

The usefulness of these notes in monitoring and controlling emissions and in subsequently improving them is due to the fact that they contain:

  • A list of the processes specific to the sector of industry of interest that are prescribed by EPA 90 as IPC regulated

  • Reasons behind prescribing the processes

  • Likely substances that will be emitted into the environment from the prescribed processes

  • The greater releases that need to be controlled such as smoke, sulphur compounds and dust

  • Realistic emission limits for the substances

  • Rhe available techniques to achieve the emission limits for prescribed substances
