Unit 3
Monitoring Air Pollution

Period of Survey

Intermittent or continuous: Short-term monitoring is best suited to intermittent sampling, whilst continuous monitoring is deployed most often in monitoring networks.

Cumulative or Instantaneous: prior to analysis of all samples, cumulative sampling collects the sample over a specified period. Instantaneous gives rise to a great deal of data which is dependent upon the use of a data logger to record the output and enable statistical analysis.

Analysis of Results

Analysis and interpretation of monitoring survey results must be undertaken with care and the limitations of the method(s) used be fully understood when reaching conclusions.
