Once the chart has been completed, you would then use the last two columns on the right-hand side of the recording area to record:

• the total number of occurrences of each characteristic, and
• the percentage of the total defects that each characteristic accounts for

This information is very useful for Pareto analysis, which is a technique covered in a later section of the course. We will look at filling in these two columns in that section.
