Elaine Wodzin was Executive Director of the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine, 1981-2000. Also in 1981, she founded the New York Coalition for Safety Belt Use which resulted in passage of the first mandatory seat belt law in the USA in 1984. She currently CoChairs the International Injury Scaling Committee (member of its predecessor committee since its origin in 1971), oversaw six revisions of the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and established the AIS training programme in 1987. Elaine is a Board member and Secretary (since 1998) of the International Research Council on the Biomechanics of Impact. Other areas in her background include: crash investigation, impairment and outcomes assessment, occupant crash protection and driver impairment.
